My Morning Jacket cancel European tour

My Morning Jacket have been forced to cancel their upcoming My Morning JacketEuropean tour, due to singer/guitarist Jim James falling ill with pneumonia-like symptoms.

An official statement from their official website reads: "The band would like to extend their sincerest apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. My Morning Jacket hopes to reschedule the European dates as soon as Jim is fully recovered and able to perform. We thank you for your understanding."

Barsuk signs Mates of State, Starlight Mints, & Viva Voce

After recently signing Rocky Votolato, Barsuk have gone on a signing Mates of Statespree, picking up; Mates of State, Starlight Mints, and Viva Voce to their label. Each group is expecting to release a new album over the next year, with Rocky Votolato kicking it off "Makers" set for release on January 24th.

Mates of State will be releasing their new album on March 21st, entitled "Bring It Back." Here is the tracklist:

Minus the Bear live on KEXP!

Hey all you MTB fans,

This week, Minus the Bear will be playing a live radio show on Seattle'sphoto by Robin Laananen best radio station, KEXP 90.3 FM at 12pm on Thursday, December 8th. If you haven't had a chance to see the band live, here's your chance to get just a little taste of what they are like live. Not in the Seattle area? Don't you fret, because you can stream KEXP online just by heading to their homepage here. So no one has any excuse on missing out on this, because the station will probably record and post up the show if you miss out on it.

Live radio show not enough for you? Good news! MTB will be playing on Friday, December 9th at The Old Firehouse in Redmond. Heather Duby, Mercir, and Elphaba are also set to play. Be there at 8pm sharp!





Locals set to support the Vera Project

Seattle's the Vera Project (an all-ages music and arts venue) will be thethe Vera Project - Seattle, WA beneficiary of this year's annual Deck the Hall Ball, put on by The End 107.7 at Seattle's Showbox. They will help raise more fundraising for the Vera Project, which should keep many teenagers in the area happy. This year's event will feature the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Aqueduct, Harvey Danger, and the Saturday Knights.

All ticket holders will also get a copy of "Live From the Morning Alternative: A Benefit for the Vera Project Volume II" which hits local stores on December 9th but will be widely available online through the Sonic Boom Records online store. The disc will feature tracks recorded live on the Morning Alternative radio show on The End with such groups as Minus the Bear and Schoolyard Heroes, while it'll also feature a couple EndSession tracks from The Shins and The Blood Brothers.

Shalabi Effect prep new release

Shalabi Effect are set to release their new album "Unfortunately" on Shalabi EffectNovember 22nd via Alien8. The effort "is a distillation of the best moments of the live recordings made at the Montreal Arts Interculturelles theater, from May 23 to May 28 2005," according to their official website. The Strokes announce secret shows (yeah...)

The Strokes have announced an upcoming "secret" tour, which The Strokesapparently began last night in Tokyo. The venues may not have been revealed but the specific areas have and it won't be too hard to figure out where they're heading. The tour will currently continue, hitting up clubs in London, Sydney, Paris, Amsterdamn, Madrid, Berlin, and Milan, finishing up the trek in mid-December.

The group's new album "First Impressions of Earth" is due out on January 3rd. Following the release, the band will go out and play more "secret" gigs across the US, playing New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and other scattered areas across the country. We'll keep you updated with the dates & venues.





David Bowie - Serious Moonlight DVD

David Bowie will be releasing the long out-of-print 1983 concert video David Bowie"Serious Moonlight" on DVD next year, scheduled to hit stores on March 13th. The video captures his performance at the Pacific National Exhibition Coliseum in Vancouver, British Columbia, which took place during his 1983 "Serious Moonlight World Tour."

The DVD features the original film but also includes an extended version of the tour documentary "Ricochet." Here is the set list for the live show DVD:

Flower 15 kicks off

Flower15, a six-night showcase and fundraiser will take place November 8th through the 13th in Chicago at the Metro. 100% of the ticket sales after costs go to local charity P.L.A.Y (Possibilities in Life: Art for Youth), a start up organization which aims to "provide creative outlets for children and teens who have been exposed to abusive and violent environments." The dates and shows are as follows:

John Fahey tribute album

This February, Vanguard Records will be releasing a John Fahey tributeA young John Fahey album entitled "I Am The Resurrection: A Tribute To John Fahey". The album will feature tracks by Sufjan Stevens, Sonic Youth's Lee Ranaldo, Grandaddy, Devendra Banhart, Calexico, Cul de Sac, and others. The release will coincide with the Vanguard reissue of Fahey's out-of-print 1968 album "The Yellow Princess", on February 14th. The reissue will feature three new tracks, as well as include the original liner notes.
